It is with sadness that I share the news about the recent passing of Dr. Roy Eversole, a giant in the field of oral pathology. Dr. Eversole’s long history with our school goes back to 1973 when he started as an Associate Professor and Chair of Pathology.
Dr. Eversole literally wrote the book on this subject with his authorship of Clinical Outline of Oral Pathology, one of his four textbooks that helped educate thousands of dental students here and elsewhere. He saved the lives of countless patients through the education he provided as a faculty member with us, in his scientific papers, by his numerous CE presentations, and through his Oral Pathology Diagnostic Service in San Diego. He last presented to us at the 2018 Alumni Association meeting where he gave an “Overview of Oral Mucosal Lesions” to a full and admiring audience.
Remembered by family and friends as a true Renaissance man, he had a unique ability to inform and entertain students. I am sure many of you have stories from his courses over the years. I certainly have many fond memories of him as one of my professors.
We send our heartfelt condolences to his family. His work will live on.
