International Women’s Day, Dental Assistants Recognition Week

Dear Dugoni School Family,

Thank you to our dedicated team of student, faculty, and staff volunteers who assisted with the COVID-19 vaccine clinic this Saturday on campus. We were able to administer doses to approximately 520 people. The attendees were grateful to receive their second dose and friendly and efficient volunteers. Thank you for making a difference in their lives.

This week is Dental Assistants Recognition Week, March 7-13. This observance is held during the first full week of March and is organized by the American Dental Assistants Association. I would like to thank the many dental assistants we have on our campus and at the Union City Dental Clinic, and those we work with regularly at affiliated community sites throughout the Bay Area.

This year’s theme is “Dental Assistants — Our Heart Goes Into Every Smile.” Dental assistants are an essential part of the oral healthcare team and our clinics and patient care would not be as successful without their skills. So, be sure to thank our dental assistants as you work with them this week, and throughout the rest of the year. Feel free to visit the website to learn more here.

March is Women’s History Month and a time to highlight the many contributions of women to society. I would like to thank our Office of Student Services for sharing some of the spotlights of women that you will be seeing throughout this month via email, social media, and on the TV monitors around school. Today, March 8, also marks International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day is designed to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness about women's equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity, and fundraise for female-focused charities. Learn more on this website.

Finally, Saturday March 6 was also the day to celebrate National Dentists Day. Some of you may have received emails of appreciation from organizations such as the ADA.  Thank you to all of our dentists and dental students.

Thank you all for what you do as we help people lead healthy lives through our focus on improved oral health.

Be well and have a great week ahead,
